LESSONS OF ZUCCOTTI PARK

What can we learn from the protestors at Zuccotti Park, on Wall St.? We can learn where the left would take us if we follow their lead. We can learn that there is no comparison between this godless demonstration against authority—any authority— and the Tea Party Movement which is a protest against ungodly tyranny. The Zuccotti Park protestors are a classic example of the “mob mentality” Anne Coulter so prophetically describes in her book, “Demonic.”

We learn that Wall Street protesters demonstrate the spirit of the French Revolution, while the Tea Party movement demonstrates the spirit of the American Revolution. The former rooted in self-gratification with no respect for self or others, while the latter is rooted in Christian love seeking the greater good for all with respect for our institutions and our system of ordered liberty.

The only thing both movements have in common is that they are both expressions of “We , the people,” though representative of two ends of the political spectrum, the left and the right.
So does the Bible say anything about this? Glad you asked.

“As dead flies give perfume a bad smell, so
a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.
The heart of the wise inclines to the right,
but the heart of the fool to the left.
Even as fools walk along the road, they lack sense
and show everyone how stupid they are.”

--Ecclesiastes 10:1-3 NIV

Bill, with respect I have to disagree with your assessment of both Occupy Wall Street and the Tea Party. You are correct that they represent the extremes of the left and the right. Neither, in my opinion, is truly centered in faith, however. They are REactions and as such too often misdirect their energies. I believe that both OWS and the TP are rooted in a deep frustration of the American people with big business on the one hand and big government on the other. What they miss is the way that big business and big government are linked together. We would not have big government without the money from corporations and corporate moguls and we would not have the runaway corporate greed without the support of government. I would love to see OWS and the TP get together to discuss their issues and join forces to tackle the real culprits: greed, both financial and political. The only real solution is for a return to the Lord and live out the Kingdom gospel given to us by Jesus. The trouble is that neither the religious left nor the religious right is willing to give it all up for the Kingdom of God - and, too often, that involves me.

I'm not so sure that we disagree. We agree on the solution: the restoration of Christian virtue. That's the job of the Church -us!

The only solution is a new great awakening. Where the people choose Jesus Christ as their leader--- Lord and Savior. Until that happens all the political movements will do nothing to solve this country's ills. The root cause is sin and we have the remedy. Keep praying and sharing the gospel as we go.
