Two events occurred today that provide a window into the hearts and minds of those who are presently in power:
First, the President’s Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel was reported to be preparing to leave the White House to enter the Mayoral race in Chicago, a reportedly long-time personal ambition of his.
Secondly, Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, chose to adjourn Congress in order for members to go home early to campaign for re-election in November, instead of remaining in Washington to vote on extending the Bush tax cuts beyond 2010.
These two reports reveal character traits of people who clearly act out of personal ambition over the good of the country. Unfortunately, this character trait has become too common place, and I have found that it speaks even to the definition of a modern liberal.
This next election must not be a contest between Democrats and Republicans, but rather it will be a contest between liberals and conservatives, between those who put personal ambition above the good of the country, and those who are motivated by a higher calling.
Let there be a purge in November. Let those who would rule others motivated by personal ambition and power lust, be replaced by others who will serve their nation because of a sense of calling and an awareness of their accountability to God. Let’s call it “Purge 2010!”

If Congress would do away with the lifetime pensions, job perks and expense accounts, these people wouldn't work so hard to get re-elected. Maybe then we'd have people running who want the job without the self interest.
If we elected people who have been successful in the private sector, they would have jobs to return to.
Appoint a Czar to pass the ruling when Congress is recessed or on vacation - isn't that how the "O" would handle it? So why can't we.
It is time to clean house and set up some rules. Many politicians today seem to think that they should get tenure after 1 or 2 terms. Term limits are NEEDED. What we appear to have now in both parties are individuals with the following priorities: 1. representing the party platform 2. representing special interest groups 3. representing their own agenda 4. making sure they play the pork barrel game properly so they can fool their constituents into thinking they are truly being represented. We need to replace most of the incumbents with men and women of principle - preferably those who actually believe in God and recognize that the laws they make may have an eternal affect not only on their lives but the lives of all those they represent. We also need people who have respect for the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution - people who know what it means to work for a living.
Am I upset - YOU BET I AM!
